Phlebostatic ulcers

The extreme evolution of chronic venous insufficiency is the phlebostatic ulcer, which is the most serious expression of venous stasis skin pathology.

In its most typical form it is localized to the malleolus and the skin already subject to other alterations due to venous insufficiency.

Ulcers almost always tend towards chronicization and remain in a phlogistic / infectious stage very often due to a bacterial colonization that contributes to their lack of scarring; in this regard, recent studies demonstrate that the chronicity of an ulcer is sometimes related to the contamination of bacteria producing biofilms.

Precisely because of the correlation between chronic ulcers and contamination by biofilm-producing bacteria, research has turned towards anti-biofilm agents and, among these, towards lactoferrin in particular which, thanks to its iron-chelating properties, is able to deconstruct the biofilm matrix composed of polysaccharides held together by iron atoms.

PIAM, aware of the seriousness of this debilitating pathology, today makes available innovative solutions that can meet the needs of the patient.
